Consultation for the Hazelwood mine rehabilitation Environmental Effects Statement (EES) draft scoping requirements has opened to the public, and The Nationals Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, is encouraging Valley locals to have their say.
Feedback will inform the final scoping requirements that will guide decisions about what to include in preparing the EES.
The final scoping requirements will be made publicly available, and there will be further opportunities for public consultation when the EES is exhibited.
“I know many proud residents and local groups have a vested interest in making sure the Valley remains a terrific place to live, work and play for future generations,” Mr Cameron said.
“Rehabilitation of the Hazelwood must be completed in a manner that secures a safe and sustainable site that is suitable for use, so that we don’t end up with a fenced-off pit.
“Hazelwood helped power Victoria for more than 60 years, and it is critical that we get mine rehabilitation right the first time around to ensure a legacy the Latrobe Valley can be proud of.
“I encourage Latrobe Valley residents with a point of view to share to provide feedback on the EES draft scoping requirements via the Engage Victoria website.”
Public comment on the EES draft scoping requirements is open now until 10th May.
