The latest data from the Victorian Crime Statistics Agency shows crime is continuing to spiral out of control under the Allan Labor Government’s watch.
In the Latrobe local government area, the number of criminal incidents recorded for the year to June 2025 increased 10.3 per cent from the year prior.
In Moe, where the Allan Labor Government has slashed operating hours at the local police station, criminal incidents have jumped by 26 per cent.
Local businesses are still being held to ransom, and theft from retail stores across the region has skyrocketed a whopping 65 per cent in the past year.
The Nationals’ Member for Morwell, Martin Cameron, said the damning figures proved the Allan Labor Government has no answers for the crime crisis in Victoria and seemingly no regard for community safety.
“Victorians have had enough of this government’s soft approach on crime, and these statistics show the state is still being held to ransom by repeat and violent offenders,” Mr Cameron said.
“Instead of addressing the problem, Labor has wasted $13 million on machete bins that will do nothing to keep violent offenders off the streets.”
The Nationals have unveiled a comprehensive plan to crack down on crime and restore community safety.
The Safer Communities Plan will introduce tough new laws alongside targeted prevention programs to make a real difference in every community, building on the Break Bail, Face Jail policy:
- Jack’s Law for Victoria – giving police powers to conduct random searches in public areas to remove weapons such as machetes from our streets.
• Restart – a Victorian-first residential responsibility and discipline program for serious and repeat offenders.
• Youthstart – co-ordinated community-based interventions to help at-risk young people make better choices.
“Families in the Latrobe Valley and across Victoria should be able to feel safe at home, in their neighbourhoods and out in public,” Mr Cameron said.
“The Nationals have a clear plan to restore community safety. Regional Victorians should not have to bear the cost of Labor’s failures.”
